5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In addition to concluding that groundwater contamination is the result of migration from the
neighboring Chevron site, the, recently completed Problem Assessment Report documented the
long-term trend of decreasing hydrocarbon concentrations in wells at the Kwikee Foods site. The
report recommended that groundwater monitoring continue through the end of 2001 to confirm that
this trend does not reverse. The laboratory results from samples collected during the third quarter
show that this trend is indeed continuing, and both the magnitude and extent of groundwater
contamination beneath the site are declining as predicted. We will therefore begin preparing a Site
Closure Report during the fourth quarter of 2001 and submit a request for site closure in the first
quarter of 2002.
•
4
