SECOND QUARTER REPORT['
KWIKEE FOODS
2081 Country Club Boulevard
Stockton,California
June 1, 2001
lEX1EC17f'aVIF, SUMMARY
Groundwater monitoring took place on May 17, 2001. The depth to groundwater was measured
with a water level meter after all seven wells were opened and allowed to stabilize for
approximately 15 minutes. A Grundfos submersible purge pump was used to purge the wells of
standing water, which was stored in DOT-approved drums on site. After purging, seven water
samples were collected in glass vials and transported to the laboratory, where they were analyzed
for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline, BTEX, and MTBE.
The hydraulic gradient map derived from groundwater depth measurements is highly unusual.
The static water level in two wells in the central portion of the site (KF-1 and KF-2) is higher
than in wells to the north or south, implying that groundwater is slightly mounded in the central
portion of the site and the piezometric surface slopes slightly in both directions away from this
mound. This is the first time since monitoring -began in 1994 that this situation has been
observed.
Hydrocarbon concentrations remain below detection Iimits in all but, two wells. TPH-g, benzene,
and MTBE were detected in the two wells near the southwestern corner of the site (KF-3 and KF-
5), and xylene was also detected in KF-3. These results duplicate those that were obtained in the
first quarter of the year, and the concentrations are almost unchanged. Consistent results have now
been obtained for four consecutive quarters, and there is no longer any doubt that contamination is
limited to the southwestern portion of the site and the area south and west of the site.
Groundwater monitoring will continue through the end of 2001, and a Problem Assessment Report
will be prepared. We anticipate that a Site Closure Report will be completed by year's end.
