.STATE OF CALIFORNIA PETE WILSON, Governor
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD—
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION g \
3443 ROUTIER ROAD. SUITE A i
SACRAMENTO. Box 5811
ARCO Products Company PERMIT/SCRVICE6
San Mateo, CA 94402
FORMER SERVICE STATION, 2103 COUNTRY CLUB BLVD. , STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Enclosed are several letters and a memorandum regarding the property at 2103
Country Club Blvd. , Stockton. The property was leased to Chevron and operated
as a service station by Chevron through 1986. Before vacating the property,
Chevron installed three monitoring wells. Soil contamination was noted in the
borings and free product was noted in MW1 .
In 1987, the property was leased to another party who operated the service
station for several months and apparently sold ARCO gasoline. The tanks were
excavated in 1988 and additional contamination was noted.
Chevron conducted the initial investigation at the site. There are law suits
involved, however, and Chevron has requested that San Joaquin County remove
Chevron as a responsible party for this site for various reasons, including
those in the attached letter dated 25 June 1992. Chevron has concluded that
the petroleum contamination at the site has characteristics of ARCO gasoline
rather than Chevron's .
Regional Board staff is interested in ARCO's opinion of the reliability of
"finger printing" gasoline in general and Chevron's conclusions regarding the
gasoline contamination at this site. If you have any questions or comments,
please call me at (916) 361-5726.
ELIZ54BETH A.
