Box 2009 ( 1601 East Hazelton Avenue)
Stockton, California 95201
Re: Chevron Service Station #9-4054
2103 Country Club
Stockton, CA
Dear Ms . Reuss:
This letter is in response to our conversation of June 20 , 1990,
regarding the workplan submitted to San Joaquin County Public
Health Services by our consultant , Pacific Environmental Group,
Inc. dated July 24 , 1989 for the referenced site.
As we are under compulsion by the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services to either implement the approved workplan or submit a re-
vised workplan, we are reviewing the approved workplan to ensure
that the proposed work is appropriate. A letter will be forwarded
to your attention by August 10, 1990, advising you of implementa-
tion of the workplan dated July 24, 1989 or when you can expect
submittal of a revised workplan.
As you are aware, Chevron has serious concerns concerning its re-
sponsibility for investigating and remediating the gasoline con-
tamination known to exist below this site. At the termination of
Chevron ' s lease in January 1987, the owner, Mr . Patrick Craig
leased these facilities to another party who sold gasoline for a
period of time and then went out of business . Comparing levels of
contamination prior to this third parties ' operation to present
data strongly suggests that a significant amount of contamination
occured after Chevron ' s operation. In addition, Chevron ' s records
showed that the tanks and lines were not leaking at the time of
our lease termination. However, when the tanks were removed after
operation by this third party, three of the six tanks were report-
ed as having holes .
