15 January 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0669
Page 2 of 10
Additionally,based on significant petroleum-impacted soil documented at the site(Site Conceptual
Model, dated 08 December 2003)at depths as shallow as 10 feet bsg,the SJCEHD has directed by
letter(Appendix A)that the indoor air pathway be investigated.Therefore,AGE is proposing to drill
and sample seven (7) soil vapor probe borings at the site to characterize soil vapor intrusion. The
scope of work for both the ground water monitoring well installs and soil vapor intrusion
investigation will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work preparations;
• Well drilling and soil sample collection;
• Well installation, development and survey;
• Geoprobe advancement and soil vapor sample collection;
• Soil vapor sample analysis;
• Review and analysis of soil vapor data and
• Report preparation.
2.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
A site specific health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to mobilization, each proposed soil boring/monitoring well location will be clearly
marked and an utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
2.2. WELL DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance pilot borings for the installation of thirteen additional ground water
monitoring wells on-site; seven of the thirteen are proposed within AGE's informally identified
hydrogeologic unit HU2 (between 35 and 50 feet), while six of the thirteen are proposed within
HU-4(between 70 and 84 feet). Monitoring wells are proposed for the following areas:
• Well MW-12 will be single-completed within HU2 (screened between 40 and 50 feet),and
located approximately 65 to 75 feet southwest of existing BAS well MW-1;
• Clustered wells MW-13 and MW-14 will each be single-completed within HU2 (screened
between 40 and 50 feet) and HU4 (screened between 70 and 80 feet), respectively, and
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
