ii
Page I of 2
Mike Infurna [EH]
From : Mike Infurna [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, February 03 , 2010 4 :02 PM
To: 'jneely@craworld .com'
Cc: 'denis . 1 . brown@shell .com'
Subject: former Shell 2575 Country Club
Gentlemen ,
I was onsite today for the limited groundwater sampling event at the above noted
subject site . All went fine with Blaine Tech and the procedures .
I noticed a problem with three of the wellheads . . . only dirt inside each of them . NO
seal . no barrier to vertical migration of liquids from the leaking boxes .
I like you to add a little grout inside each of the well boxes so that there is no dirt
visible inside the large boxes for MW-5R , MW-8 , & MW- 18 and any liquid that
entered the box would just puddle and NOT migrate downward . These boxes have
a large yellow plastic inserts that incorporate the many hoses , lines , etc , needed for
the former remediation system . All of the lines are INSIDE the yellow sleeves , but
the area around the outside of the plastic to the inside of the traffic box is just dirt ,
unsealed , and providing a preferential pathway to the shallow gw at the site from
any liquid that seeps into the box .
Please pour at least a thin layer ( NLT 1 -inch thick ) neat grout seal inside of these
boxes to inhibit the migration of any surface fluids that appear to be getting inside
each of these boxes . From what I saw in each , this should not be a big job and
something that your contractor could handle with a bag or two of cement , water, and
a five gallon bucket. I saw no need for digging or jack hammering . MW- 18 dirt is
chunky and looks like a cultivated field . Smoothing this out may be the most effort
needed before adding the grout to any of the wells .
If you need more than an email to get this handled , let me know . I ' ll generate an
official letter and upload it to Geotracker after I mail it off. .
let me know if this email is adequate and when the work is planned . I 'll be onsite
to sign off the inspection .
thank you .
2/3/2010
