Mr.Michael Infurna,SJCEHD April 7,2006
Well Installation Work Plan
Palisades Station No. 835,Stockton,CA
Page 8
Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation of Underground Tank Sites, April 2004) and
SJCEHD guidelines. A California-licensed C-57 well driller will perform all soil boring
activities. A copy of Stratus' field practices and procedures that will be utilized during
this work is provided in Appendix A.
Task 1: Pre-field Activities
Following approval of this Work Plan by SJCEHD personnel, the following activities
will be completed:
• Secure a revocable permit and an encroachment permit from the City of Stockton,
• Obtain well installation permits from SJCEHD,
• Retain and schedule a licensed C-57 drilling contactor,
• Update the health and safety plan for the site,
• Mark boring locations and contact Underground Service Alert to locate
underground utilities in the vicinity of the work site, and
• Notify SJCEHD, the City of Stockton, and Palisades of the scheduled field
activities.
Task 2: Field Activities
Task 2A: Soil Borings
A licensed well driller will advance the soil borings using a truck mounted drill rig
equipped with 8-inch, 10-inch, and 15-inch diameter hollow stem augers. Each boring will
be completed as a groundwater monitoring well, as described below. The initial 5 feet of
each boring will be advanced with a hand auger and/or posthole digger to reduce the
possibility of damaging underground utilities. Prior to the advancement of. borings
MW-12, MW-13, MW-14, MW-18, MW-19, and MW-21 to total depth, 9-inch diameter
steel conductor casing, connected using welded joints, will be installed in the borehole
through 15-inch diameter augers. The conductor casing will be grouted in place using neat
cement, and a minimum of 36-hours will be allotted for curing of the grout. Prior to further
advancement of the conductor cased borings, residual groundwater situated inside of the
conductor casing will be evacuated from the borehole to minimize the possibility of cross
contaminating dissolved hydrocarbons during drilling.
Soil samples will be collected at select intervals using a California-type, split-spoon
sampler equipped with three pre-cleaned brass tubes. The ends of the bottom-most, intact
tube from each sample interval will be lined with TeflonTm sheets, capped, and sealed.
Each sample will then be labeled, placed in a resealable plastic bag, and stored in an ice-
KAUSA Gasoline\0835\Work PlanApalisades835 workplan2006.doc STRATUS
