Mike Infurna [EH]
From: Neely,Joe Oneefy@craworld.com]
Sent: Thursday ,2011 10:52 AM
To: Mike Infuma [EH]
Subject: ZIStockton -Sampling reductions
Attachments: 240783-2011GN-S0002 figure 3 - Extended Site Plan.pdf
Mike:
I tried to call you to discuss this but you were not in, and I figured it would be better to send you an
email rather than leave you a long voice mail for this matter.
I reviewed this site with Denis Brown and he is interested in doing some sampling reductions. And we
wanted to bounce these reduction ideas off of you before putting them in a letter for you to review.
• The first thought is to eliminate or reduce the frequency of analysis for ETRE, DIPE, and TAME.
Currently we analyze for these constituents in 7 monitoring wells at different frequencies. DIPE
has been detected only 3 times at low levels, ETBE has never been detected, and TAME has
been detected in several onsite wells (MW-5, MW-5R, RW-1A, MW-8, MWA7, and MWA8)with
the most recent high detection of 50 ppb (MW-18, May 2011). If there is any concern about
TAME,we could continue this annually in the wells it has been previously detected in.
• Domestic Well and Caltrans Well Sampling. We would like to discontinue sampling of the
domestic wells and the CalTrans well. We have a large body of data that says the Shell plume
has not migrated toward, or affected these water supply wells. In addition we have sentry wells
(MW-9, MW-10, MWA 1, and MW-14) in place between the site and these wells which monitor
the plume, and if we start to see the plume move toward these wells, we could always re-initiate
sampling. Plume migration is not likely as the data show it is declining is size.
I've attached a recent site map for reference.
Please let me know your thoughts on this plan and if it looks good, I'll write it up in a letter and send it to
you for review and approval.
Thanks
Joe
Joe W.
