In October 1997 analytical results of the
grab water sample taken from boring P-1 at approximately 15 feet below surface grade were 10,000 parts per
billion(ppb)of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline(IPH g),660 ppb of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
as diesel(TPI-d),280 ppb of Ethyl-benzene,and 610 ppb of Xylenes. Four monitor wells(IvM were installed
at the site's maintenance area in April 2000 to evaluate the extent of the contamination in both soil and
groundwater.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD)has reviewed
Maatarig Wd l Ips Aatw Report-Second Quarter 2000(the report)dated August 1,2000 prepared by Advanced
GeoEnvironmental,Inc(AGE). Analytical results of both soil and groundwater samples from the MWs were
non-detect at appropriate detection limits for TPHg,TPH d,aromatic hydrocarbons as Benzene,Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes(BTEX collectively),and the 5 oxygenates using EPA Method 8260. In the report
the calculation of the mass of contaminants remaining at the site was approximately 9.6 gallons of gasoline.
The report recommended closure consideration of the site.
PHS/EHD does not concur with the report's recommendation for site closure at this time. Minimally a second
sampling of all monitoring wells must be conducted to confirm the validity of the initial analytical results.
Evaluation for closure should be based on repeatable and quantitatively consistent data.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at(209)468-0335.
Donna Heran,REM,Director
Environmental Health Division
rA
Jeffrey Wong, REHS 7Lareteorio, NS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB,Central ValleyRegion-Marty Hartzell
c: Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.-Brian Mnllman
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
