A safe
perimeter has been established at 20 feet around boring/excavation.No unauthorized person should
be within this exclusion area.
4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION
The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on site.
SUBSTANCES INVOLVED: CONCENTRATIONS:
Gasoline 1,300 mg/kg
Diesel 89 mg/kg
Volatile aromatics 0.070 mg/kg
Other organic-based products (?) 160 mgkc,
The primary hazards of each are identified as follows:
1. Hydrocarbon fuels- Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic petroleum
hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. Exposure to
these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, nose, and
throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Symptoms
of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, and loss
of coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTE&X etc.) are known or suspected
carcinogens.
The following additional hazards are expected on site: typical work related to facility. Noise falling
rods, flving hammer, snapped cables etc on the backhoe/excavator (if applicable).
