Report for Monitor WAJ91ing and Groundwater Investigation
Pilkington North America
July 23,2003
Page 4
INVESTIGATION RESULTS
Field Observations
No petroleum hydrocarbon odors were noted in purge water from the monitor wells, emanating from the
installed borings, or in any of the groundwater and soil samples collected from either UST site. Soil
encountered in the borings installed at the 1997 UST removal site consisted primarily of poorly graded
sand, ranging from very fine to medium grained, with silt content ranging from about I to 10 %per unit
weight. The field operated photo-ionization detector (PID) did not detect organic vapor at or above the
instrument detection limit in any of the soil or groundwater samples collected at the 1997 UST removal
site. Groundwater was encountered at the 1986/1987 UST removal site in MW-17 and MW-18 at
approximately 10 feet below grade and at approximately 14 below grade in the borings installed at the
1997 UST removal site.
Groundwater Gradient
Groundwater elevation data for the 1986/1987 UST removal site are shown in Table 1, below. The
groundwater elevation data indicates that the groundwater gradient was 0.0037 foot/foot to the southwest
on July 9, 2003.The groundwater gradient is shown in Figure 5,Attachment A.
TABLE 1 —Groundwater Elevation Data(July 9,2003)
Monitoring Well Collar Elevation Depth To Water Groundwater Elevation
Well
W-3 16.73 13.84 2.89
W-4 18.66 15.51 3.15
MW-17 11.82 10.07 1.75
MW-18 11.72 10.00 1.72
All measurements are in feet.
Laboratory Analytical Results
Laboratory analytical results of the soil samples collected from GP-1 through GP-4 at the 1997 UST
removal site are shown in Table 2, on the.next page. The laboratory analytical results indicate that none of
the constituents were detected in any of the soil samples at or above the laboratory reported detection
limits. The laboratory report for the soil samples, including certificates of analysis and the chain of
custody record,is in Attachment C.
I
I
i
i
1 { '
4M
is CONDOR
