San Joaquin County
Dear Mr. Isorena:
Thank you for taking the time to discuss the above referenced site in our telephone conversation on June
4, 2002. During our conversation, you requested that I prepare this letter to formalize our request for a
reduction of the analytical requirements for quarterly monitoring at the facility. As we discussed,
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) have never been detected at or above the
laboratory reported detection limits in groundwater samples collected from the five monitored locations
(three monitor wells MW-1 through MW-3 and two sumps SW-Sump and SE-Sump). Groundwater
samples from the five monitoring locations have also been analyzed for total extractable petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as kerosene, diesel, and motor oil (TEPH). Based on the historical groundwater
analytical results, Condor Earth Technologies, on behalf of Pilkington North America, Inc. (PNA),
respectfully requests that the requirement for BTEX analyses be discontinued as a part of the quarterly
groundwater monitoring program, and that samples continue to be analyzed for TEPH.
Thank you for your attention to this project. If there are any questions, please call Mike Bowles, PNA
Environmental Manager, at(209) 858-6202, or me at(209)234-0518.
Respectfully submitted,
Donald F.
