The permit fee was
paid online, confirmation number 030283. Field work is currently scheduled for May 7, 2013. The following describes the
proposed scope of work for the Costco Manteca drilling. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Scone of Work
Soil sampling will be performed by Kleinfelder for Costco Wholesale Corporation (Costco) at the location of a proposed
fuel additive UST to be installed at Costco's existing Warehouse No. 1031 facility. Soil sampling is being performed in
order to obtain waste profiling data to facilitate disposal of soil that will be excavated during UST installation.
One soil boring will be advanced using direct push drilling methods to approximately 9 feet bgs. Soil samples will be
collected from the boring at approximate depths of 2 feet, 5 feet, and 8 feet bgs (unless field observations, such as the
presence of hydrocarbon or chemical staining or odor, warrant the submittal of a sample from between these intervals).
Soil samples will be collected using a combination of hand-held (i.e., hand auger) and direct-push equipment. Use of
direct-push equipment, such as that used with the GeoprobeTM, typically consists of driving a hollow rod into the ground to
the desired depth using a hydraulic percussion hammer mounted on the back of a truck. The soil samples will be collected
in 0.75-inch diameter, clear polyvinyl chloride sample sleeves that are up to 4 feet long.
1
