HAZARD N4NAGEMENT CONSUW ING, INC.
November 23, 1998
Mr. Steve Sasson
San Joaquine County Public Health Services
Third Floor
304 East Weber Avenue
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Removal of diesel fuel impacted soil at Crossroads Center, Lathrop,
California
Dear Mr. Sasson,
Diesel impacted soil, apparently resulting from a ruptured fuel tank on a truck, was found
in a test pit dug to assess the dewatering efforts at the west end of the D'Arcy Parkway
extension. Approximately 100 to 125 cubic yards of soil was then excavated and several
thousand gallons of impacted groundwater pumped from the excavation under the
direction of ATC Associates. The San Jouquin County Health Department was notified
and approved the continuation of construction work if any additional oily soil or
impacted groundwater be addressed.
The installation of the storm drain was resumed and approximately 100 cubic yards of
additional soil excavated under the direction of a Registered Geologist from
Groundworks Environmental, a copy of their report documenting activities is included for
your review. Excavated soil was saturated with water and was allowed to stand in a
stockpile and dry over the summer in order to reduce the total tons of soil sent off site. A
total of 325 tons (approximately 215 cubic yards) of diesel fuel impacted soil was
removed from the site on October 16, 1998. Disposal documents will be provided as
soon as they are received.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please call me at my direct
number(949) 587-0340 pr page me at (949) 588-5219.
Ve truly yours,
azar Management Consulting, Inc.
6---
David M.
