GROUND ZERO ANALYSIS, INC.
1714 Main,Street
Escalon,California 95320-1927
Telephone: (209)838-9888
Facsimile: (209)838-9883
December 14, 2000
Ms. Lori Duncan
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Soil Excavation Report and Case Closure Request
North Stockton Auto Service, 8709 N. Davis Road, Stockton, CA
Dear Ms. Duncan:
Enclosed please find your copy of the subject report. The report describes the recent excavation of
• contaminated soil and the results of soil sampling. All confirmation soil samples were non-detect,
including the sample collected from the floor of the excavation at a depth of twenty feet.
We previously proposed to install a soil boring through the former tankpit in order to collect a
groundwater sample. We are currently recommending that we forego this boring and hope your
agency will reconsider the need for a groundwater sample. No evidence suggests that contamination
may have migrated to groundwater. However, the immediate proximity of an upgradient MTBE
groundwater contamination site (Tosco/Circle K Unit No. 08671) raises the possibility that onsite
groundwater could be affected by that release. Should an onsite groundwater sample be found to
contain MTBE or other gasoline compounds, our client would in all likelihood be required to
investigate the problem on the assumption that it originated on site.
Our client wishes to avoid the immediate expense of drilling and sampling a boring to
groundwater and the potential expense of investigating an offsite release. We will, however,
install the boring if you disagree with our current recommendation. Please feel free to contact me
at any time.
Respectfully,
Gr ou ero Analysis C.
Gregory P. Stahl, RG 5023
.
