4. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION AND HEALTH AND SAFETY
PROCEDURES
The down hole equipment will be cleaned prior to entering the Site and between each
boring. General health and safety procedures will be followed during drilling
operations. Level D safety procedures will be followed for the site. An onsite Health&
Safety Plan providing contact information and directions to the nearest hospital will be
available during drilling and construction activities.
5. DRILLING DETAILS
A California Licensed driller will perform the drilling at the Site. Drilling will be
completed using an eight-inch hollow stem auger. Soil samples will be collected using
split-spoon sampler every five feet and logged using the Unified Soil Classification
System (USCS). For the borehole located adjacent to the Retention Pond (MW-3),
continuous core will be collected in the first five feet to accurately determine the soil
profile and collect samples for laboratory analysis. Soil samples will be logged based
upon: type, color, grain size, stiffness, moisture content, and plasticity when
appropriate. Sample recovery percent and blow counts will be recorded for each
sample on well logs. Drilling depths will be dependant upon first encountered water
within a continuous monitorable unit. An example of a boring log form used during
drilling is presented in Appendix A.
The soil samples collected from the MW-3 location will be analyzed for various
American Society for Testing and Material(ASTM)protocols. Moisture content will be
performed under ASTM D2216. Plasticity will be performed under ASTM D4318.
Grain size analysis will be performed under ASTM D422. A laboratory permeability
will be determined for low permeable materials within 20 feet of ground surface.
6. MONITORING WELL DESIGN
After each boring is completed, installation of a monitoring well will commence. Screen
placement will be based upon historic fluctuations in ground water levels and lithology.
Monitoring wells will be constructed using 2-inch inside diameter Schedule 40 PVC
casing. The riser pipe and screen casings will be joined using flush thread joints with o-
rings. The bottom cap will be flush-thread jointed. Screen intervals will be
Woods Dairy March 1,2010
103-27 Monitoring Well Installation Plan 13 Revision 1
