3.0 ADDITIONAL SOIL REMOVAL ACTIVITIES
1 Based on the laboratory results for the initial soil samples collected at the time of removal of
the USTs, excavation of contaminated soil from beneath the former diesel and wastewater
tanks and beneath the former remote fill line was deemed necessary The contaminated soil
was removed and additional samples were collected Samples ST-2E, ST-2F, ST-2G,
ST-2H, ST-2I, ST-2J, ST-2K and ST-2L were collected from the former diesel tank
excavation, sample ST-313 was collected from the former wastewater tank excavation, and
samples RF-B, RF-C, RF-RT and RF-R+1 were collected from below the former remote
fill line area
2 Figure 3 shows the approximate locations of the additional soil samples The additional
sampling activities were witnessed by Ms Diane Hanson of San Joaquin County
3 An Interim Report, Preliminary Soils Investigation, was submitted to Ms Diane Hinson
in November 1990 summarizing soil removal activities and results of additional sampling
performed through the first part of November 1990 A copy of this report is included in
Appendix B
4 Laboratory results of samples obtained during the additional soil sampling activities associated
with the former diesel and wastewater tanks and former remote fill line are summarized in
Table 2 and are discussed in Sections 3 1 through 3 3 below A copy of the laboratory
reports and Chain-of-Custody forms for the additional samples are included in Appendix C
5 As part of the tank removal activities performed at the Site, surface structures associated with
the former fueling platform (i e , rail tracks, track pans) were also removed During the
removal-of these structures, several areas of discolored surficial soil were observed
Excavation was performed to remove the observed discolored soil from the following areas
{' Inspection pit area
• Former fueling facility -`
Samples were collected following excavation to verify that potential soil contamination was
removed from these areas Samples 5A, 5A-1, 5B, 5C and 5D were collected from the
inspection pat area, and samples 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 4F, 4G and 4G-1 were collected from
the area of the former track pans.
