Kennedy'Jenks Consultants
Section 1 : Program Overview
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants (K/J) complies with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard
(29 CFR 1910.1200) and equivalent state regulations by compiling hazardous chemicals lists, by using
Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), by ensuring that containers are labeled, and by providing employee
training. This program applies to all work operations at K/J offices and in the field where employees
may be exposed to hazardous substances under normal working conditions or during a non-routine
situation. A hazardous substance (or hazardous chemical) means any substance
(or chemical) that is a physical hazard or a health hazard. An example of a physical hazard might be
flammability, explosive capability, or water reactivity. An example of a health hazard might be a
carcinogenic substance or a substance that causes irritation, or sensitization.
Most products used within an office-setting fall under the retail products or"manufactured items that
remain intact' exemption to the Hazard Communication Standard. The exemption states:
Retail products used in offices in the same manner and frequency used by consumers,
can be termed "consumer products" and include things such as correction fluid, glass
cleaner, and dishwashing liquid."
This exemption also covers manufactured items that remain intact such as enclosed toner cartridges,
ink cartridges, and batteries.
Your Office Safety Representative is the Hazard Communication Program Coordinator for your office.
Copies of this written program are available on the K/J Health &Safety intranet page.
Under this program, employees will be informed of the contents of the Hazard Communication
Standard, the hazardous properties of chemicals used at K/J, safe handling procedures, and measures
to take for protection from these chemicals. Employees will also be informed of the hazards associated
with non-routine tasks, such as spill management.
An inventory of all hazardous chemicals used at your location has been compiled by the Office Safety
Representative. This list will be updated as necessary. The inventory of chemicals identifies all of the
covered chemicals used in your office or in the field, along with the location where the chemicals are
used.
Hazard Communication Written Program
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants©,November 2013 Page 1
g:Vaga Wmin4ob113\1385 W—bnaNbp,ojwninNasplatlxhmentW-1 haudcammudc npmTam.doc
