Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Diamond Walnut Growers, 1050 South Diamond Street, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Hinson:
Enclosed please find a copy of the requested workplan for further subsurface investigation related
to the former underground storage vaults at the referenced site.
Our workplan proposes to investigate the lateral and vertical distribution of chromium in soils
affected by leakage from former vault #8. This information will be used to delineate the limits of
soil impact as well as to chemically characterize the soil preliminary to evaluating the necessity and
feasibility of in situ remediation.
The history of product usage in the glycol vaults leads us to believe that further investigation is
unnecessary. Previous soil tests revealed that the glycols had not reached groundwater, although
they had more than enough time to do so. This fact is consistent with degradation expectations;
as you are aware, glycols degrade rapidly in soil. Of course, if, after review of the enclosed
materials, you still believe additional glycol tests are necessary, we will collect soil samples with
the objective of verifying or refuting previous soil analyses that reported the presence of ethylene
glycol beneath former vaults #1 and #6.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the workplan, please feel free to contact me
anytime.
Respectfully,
RESNA Industries, Inc.
Gregory P.
