PERMIT/SERVICES
1117 Lone Palm Avenue, Suite 201
Modesto, CA 95351
REVISED MONITORING AND REPORTING PROGRAM NO. R5-2011-0815,
DIAMOND FOODS INC., 1050 SOUTH DIAMOND STREET, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Diamond Foods Inc. is monitoring groundwater at their walnut processing facility under
Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP) No. R5-2004-0840 due to a release of total
and hexavalent chromium. In a letter dated 25 March 2011, you requested a revision to
your MRP. Central Valley Water Board staff revised your MRP to eliminate the
quarterly monitoring schedule that was required for your monitoring wells
In your letter, you requested semi-annual monitoring and eliminating VOC analysis for
all active wells. After review of the historical groundwater data, Water Board staff
concur that all Site wells should be sampled semi-annually. However, Diamond Foods
needs to continue analyzing for VOCs because monitoring wells MW-7 and MW-9
consistently contain PCE concentrations that exceed our maximum contaminant level
for drinking water of 5 pg/L. However, we have decreased the VOC analysis schedule
from quarterly to annually.
Revised MRP No. R5-2011-0815 is now in effect. The next required annual report is
due 1 November 2011. A copy of the new MRP is included for your records.
