(Geomatrix)has prepared this workplan on behalf of Chevron
Environmental Management Company (Chevron) for work to be conducted at the Surland
Homes Property(Figure 1). This work plan was developed in response to a November 8, 1999
letter(attached)to Chevron from the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB)
granting permission to destroy monitoring well TW-2 at the Surland Homes Property. The
proposed scope of work is described below.
Geomatrix will oversee the destruction of one groundwater monitoring well (TW-2) at the
location shown on Figure 2. Prior to field activities, Geomatrix will obtain a well destruction
permit from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) and schedule a fencing
subcontractor to remove a portion of the fence enclosing the monitoring well to allow access
for the drill rig. Upon receipt of the permit, the monitoring well will be destroyed using
hollow-stem auger methods. Per a request from the SJCPHS,the monitoring well will be
drilled out to one foot below the bottom of the well (total depth of 15 feet below ground
surface) to ensure that all material associated with the well is removed from the ground. Once
the well is removed, the borehole will be backfilled with grout to approximately 1.5 feet below
grade to accommodate future landscaping activities; the upper 1.5 feet will be backfilled with
native soil. Once the well destruction is complete, the fencing contractor will repair the
removed portion of the fence. All material generated during the well destruction activities will
be sealed in a 55-gallon drum and properly disposed of the same day. Documentation of the
well destruction activities will be included in the next quarterly groundwater monitoring report
(January-March 2000).
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
Engineers, Geologists, and Environmental Scientists
