0
Mr.M. Scott Mansholt—CEMC
Soil Sampling Work Plan August 1,2006
Surland Homes Property Page 6 of 8
' tape and plastic end caps, labeled with identifying information, and stored in a pre-chilled cooler
for transportation to the laboratory. For the acetate liners, the selected soil sampling interval will
be cut from the plastic liners prior to preservation. Soil samples will be recorded onto a chain-of-
custody document that will accompany the samples to the laboratory and will designate the
samples to be analyzed.
' Each borehole will be logged for lithological content using the Unified Soil Classification System
guidelines, and for color, relative moisture content, and other observable distinguishing
characteristics (i.e.,color changes, debris, rootlets, or odor).
INVESTIGATION-DERIVED WASTE
During the investigation, soil cuttings will be generated, and will be containerized within a
Department of Transportation(DOT)approved drum. Water will also be generated during
' equipment decontamination, and will be stored in a separate DOT-approved drum. The
investigation derived waste will be profiled for disposal and hauled to a CEMC disposal facility
under the appropriate manifest/bill of lading.
' PROPOSED ANALYSES
SOIL SAMPLE ANALYSES
' Based on the soil sampling program developed above, selected soil samples will be analyzed by a
California State-certified laboratory for the petroleum hydrocarbon constituents listed below. All
' other soil sample collected will be placed on hold with the analytical laboratory.
• TPH quantified as crude oil by EPA 8015M,
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes by 8260B,and
' • PAHs by EPA Method 8270,using Selective Ion Monitoring(SIM).
' QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL
All field and laboratory procedures will be conducted in accordance with SAIC's Quality
Assurance& Quality Control Sample Collection, Handling, and Analysis Guidelines.
' REPORTING AND SCHEDULE
A Summary Report will be prepared to document the results of the soil sampling and analyses.
' This report will include soil analytical results, certified analytical reports and chain-of-custody
documentation, field data sheets, and description of field methods used to obtain the samples.
The report will include tables and figures presenting soil analytical data. In addition, a HHSE
' will be developed. The nature and methodology used in developing the HHSE will be presented
to the DTSC in advance of developing the HHSE.
' SCHEDULE
SAIC is prepared to initiate the proposed work scope within 4 weeks on approval of this work
plan. A Summary Report will be submitted within 60 days after the completion of the field
' investigation and receipt of the laboratory analytical data.
