PHS/EHD has the following comments <br /> for your consideration and response. <br /> The Work Plan Addendum proposed the installation of six monitoring wells, five <br /> shallow and one deep. The deeper monitoring well, MW102 will be placed <br /> approximately 25 feet below first water and have 2.5 feet of screened interval. Given <br /> the significant concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons and the density of nearby <br /> domestic drinking water wells, it may be necessary to install additional deeper <br /> monitoring wells to ascertain vertical gradient and plume delineation. Please submit <br /> PHS/EHD drilling permit applications and fees (an application and $89 per parcel) <br /> along with encroachment permits and/or access agreements. <br /> PHS/EHD concurs with the recommendation to quarterly sample the nearby domestic <br /> wells until the petroleum hydrocarbon plume's boundaries are better delineated. <br /> PHS/EHD understood that the 2,000 foot well survey was performed on January 17, <br /> 1997. PHS/EHD believes that sufficient information is available to determine the <br /> predominant groundwater gradient direction; however, should it be determined in the <br /> future that the groundwater gradient direction may be shifting, PHS/EHD would then <br /> concur with the recommendation to exam the gradient direction more closely. Since <br /> MTBE has been detected in MW1, PHS/EHD concurs with the recommendation that <br /> groundwater samples undergo MTBE analysis. PHS/EHD also concurs with the <br /> recommendation to collect in the field, measurements of the concentration of <br /> dissolved oxygen and oxidation reduction potential of the groundwater prior to purging <br /> and collecting of the groundwater samples. <br /> The report of the results of the investigation should summarize all groundwater and <br /> soil information which has been collected at the site. Efforts should be made to <br /> collect sufficient information to prepare a corrective action plan pursuant to the <br /> Underground Storage Tank Regulations with authority under the Health and Safety <br /> Code. <br /> A Division of Sin Joaquin Countv Health Care Services <br />
