CreolagkAt recknfcs Inc. • • Page 2
Work Plan
George's Service
Project No.425.2
August 14,2002
2.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
To further investigate the vertical extent of soil and groundwater impacted with gasoline
range petroleum hydrocarbons, Geological Technics Inc. proposes the following work.
1. Install one discretely screened monitoring well into the sand layer, approximately 30-
feet bgs,north of the site.
2. Install one discretely screened monitoring well into the sand layer, approximately 30-
feet bgs, near the former USTs.
' 3. Install two discretely screened monitoring wells into sand layers, approximately 30 and
50-feet bgs, near the former pump islands.
4. Analysis of groundwater samples for natural attenuation parameters.
5. Quarterly groundwater monitoring.
2.1 Monitoring Well Installation
' 30-Foot Wells
GTI proposes to install three, discretely screened, monitoring wells to a depth of
approximately 35-feet bgs. These wells will target the sand and gravel layer encountered at
' approximately 30-feet bgs. One of the wells, MW-101, will be installed between the former
pump island and building. The second well, MW-2X, will be installed with the cluster of
wells near the former USTs. The third well, MW-106, will be installed north of the site,
between MW-6 and MW-7. This well is proposed in this location because Mr. Birkhahn,
owner of 1697 W. Durham Ferry Rd. has told GTI in the past that he will not allow
additional wells on his property. Figure 2, Site Map, shows well locations.
' The well borings will be drilled using an 8-inch outside diameter continuous flight hollow
stem auger owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 720904).
'
50-Foot Well
GTI proposes to install one, discretely screened, monitoring well to a depth of
approximately 50-feet bgs. This well will target the sandy layer at approximately 45-feet
' bgs. The well, MW-201, will be installed between the former pump island and building.
Figure 2, Site Map, shows well locations.
The well boring will be drilled using an 8-inch outside diameter continuous flight hollow
' stem auger owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 720904).
Soil boring permits will be secured as necessary and the local regulatory agency will be
' notified 48 hours prior to commencing work. The subsurface will be cleared of
underground utilities by notifying Underground Service Alert.
2.1.1 Soil Sampling Procedure
' Soil samples will be collected continuously for geological and analytical evaluation in the
deep well, MW-201 and the intermediate well, MW-106. Due to the proximity of MW-101
to MW-201 and MW-2X to MW-202, these borings will be free drilled.
A boring log providing sediment description using the USCS and field observations will be
maintained by a professional geologist working under the supervision of a registered
' geologist. Soil samples will be collected in 6.0-inch brass liners using a 2.0-inch modified
