system has proven itself in past projects to greatly increase the areal dissipation of
fresh air into the subsurface. Once again the goal here would be to transfer as
much fresh air as possible into the oxygen depleted water table within the
contamination plume.
1.4.4 Back filling of the excavation with a 1.5" to 2"rock base up to one foot above the
water table. Then a Class 2 baserock up to within 4" of the final surface grade.
Finally finishing off the surface with a impermeable asphaltic cap.
2.0 REMEDIAL TASK SUMMARY
2.1 REMEDIAL ACTION TASKS PROPOSED
The following tasks would be completed as previously described in Section 1.4.
Task 2.1.1
Underground Service Alert (USA) would be contacted and all underground utilities, pipelines or
any other engineered systems located to the best of their and our abilities. Site security would be
placed on sight via chain-linked fencing, barricades and flashing caution markers.
Task 2.1.2
Mobilization of a backhoe and front-end loader to complete the soils manipulations.
Layout of the proposed excavation area and grading of the area where the stockpiled soil will be
located. Spreading of 6-mill poly plastic for containment.
Task 2.1.3
Starting at the far western end of the proposed excavation begin removing contaminated soil
down to the capillary fringe and then an additional foot or two to make the maximum effort to
remove the source of the contamination. This task would be done to the farthest extent possible
and as far as necessary to create and develop the greatest impact towards removing the
contamination. As the soils are removed the front end loader would then pickup the
contaminated soil and relocate it onto the 6-mill plastic. The excavation would continue towards
the east and cover as much area as possible to the north and south. There are limitations to the
north due to Durham Ferry Road and a fiber optic cable that is parallel to the road way. To the
south is George's Service Store.
Based on the analytical data and previous soil borings at the site the overall anticipated volume
of soil that is to be removed is 350 to 500 cubic yards.
Tasks 2.1.4
A full set of soil and water samples would be collected as directed by the geologist in charge and
with the consent of the SJCPHD. This task could be completed as one event at the end of the
DEL-TECH Page 3 8/15/00
