' EVALUATION OF METALS ANALYSIS IN LIEU OF BENCHSCALE STUDY FOR OZONE
SPARGING
' George's Service
1600 Durham Ferry Road
Tracy, CA
Dear Mr. Singh:
SECOR International Incorporated (SECOR) has prepared this letter on SOIL METALS
EVALUATION for George's Service in Tracy, California (the site), in lieu of an Ozone Sparging
Benchscale Study for Geologic Technics Inc., of Modesto, California (GTI). The letter is
' intended to address concerns about the possible mobilization of metals and trace elements in
soils at a site under evaluation for the application of ozone sparging. The study has been
designed to address the Regional Water Quality Control Board's (RWQCB) concerns about
metal mobilization due to in situ oxidation. SECOR was provided analytical data from soil and
groundwater taken from a boring at the site. This letter provides a geochemical evaluation of
the metals and trace element data and an opinion as to the mobility of the metals observed in
soil and groundwater at the site.
OBJECTIVE
' The objective of the geochemical analysis of the soil and groundwater metals and trace element
data is to evaluate whether the potential for mobilization exists if an oxidant such as ozone is
' added to the system.
The following metal and trace element suite was requested by the RWQCB for analysis:
aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, cadmium, calcium, chromium
(III and VI), cobalt, copper, iron, lead, magnesium, manganese, mercury,
molybdenum, nickel, potassium, selenium, silver, sodium, thallium, tungsten,
' vanadium, and zinc.
RESULTS
' Soil and groundwater were sampled by GTI and submitted to Excelchem of Roseville, California
for analysis of the full metals and trace element suite listed above. In addition soil samples
' were analyzed for total Kjehldahl nitrogen (TKN), total alkalinity, bicarbonate alkalinity (Bi-car.
Alkalinity), carbonate alkalinity (Car. Alkalinity), hydroxide alkalinity (Hydro. Alkalinity), chloride,
hardness, nitrate, phosphorus, and sulfate. Groundwater samples were also analyzed for pH,
specific conductance (S. Conductance), TKN, total alkalinity, Bi-car. Alkalinity, Car. Alkalinity,
