Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Re: Ruiz Grocery, 4491 W. Durham Ferry Road, Tracy, CA
Dear Ms. Ways,
This letter responds to requests for additional information/explanation regarding
the referenced project raised in your correspondence dated August 15, 1996. Your
letter addressed several issues ranging from sampling protocol to conceptual
remedial design relating to Clearwater Group, Inc.'s (Clearwater's) Problem
Assessment Report, Feasibility Study, and Remedial Action PIan dated February 21,
1996 and correspondence dated June 5, 1996. This letter addresses each item in the
order listed in your letter to ease review.
Domestic Well
The PHS/EHD requested a sampling protocol for the domestic well at the site, which
will be used in all future sampling events. This protocol is stated as follows:
Clearwater personnel will turn on the downwell pump and allow it to operate until
approximately 300 gallons are purged from the well (which equals approximately
three saturated well volumes, assuming the well casing is four inches in diameter,
depth to well bottom is 185 feet below grade, and static water is approximately 15 feet
below grade). During purging, temperature, pH, and conductivity of water obtained
from a pre-storage tank tap located on the well standpipe will be measured in order
confirm purge water parameter stabilization. A water sample will then be collected
directly from the pre-storage tank tap located.
Table 2 Groundwater Sample Analytical Results
As requested by the PHS/EHD, analytical results for hydropunch samples HP-1
through HP-6 will be included in tables for groundwater sample analytical results in
all future reports. A footnote regarding exceeded holding time for samples collected
on January 5, 1996 will also appear in all future reports. A revised Table 2 and
original cover letter from Trace Analysis Laboratory for the January 5, 1996 sample
analyses are enclosed.
520 Third Street,Suite 104 • Oakland,California 94607 + Telephone 510-893-5160 • Fax 510-893-5947
