i
CLEARWATER
G R O U P, I N C.
Environmental Services
7
Ms. Lori Duncan April 25, 2001
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
I
304 East Weber Avenue
Stockton, CA 95202 l
Re: Well Destruction and System Removal Report
Ruiz Grocery
4491 West Durham Ferry Road, Tracy, CA
Dear Ms. Duncan,
Introduction
This report, prepared by Clearwater Group (Clearwater) on behalf of Mrs. Stella Ruiz, presents the
results of well destruction and remedial system component removal at the referenced site at Ruiz
Grocery, 4491 West Durham Ferry Road, Tracy, California (Figure 1).
On April 11, 2001, Ms. Cori Condon. of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB) verbally concurred with San Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental
Health Division's (SJCPHS/EH.D's) December 27,.2000 recommendation for regulatory closure of the
project based on cumulative investigation results through the second quarter 2001, and also approved
destruction of all project wells.
This work was expedited due to road and shoulder resurfacing on Bird Road scheduled to start April 16,
2001, which would have potentially resulted in covering and/or damaging investigation wells and
subsurface remedial piping associated with the project.
Remedial System Components Removal
On April 4 through 6, 2001, Clearwater supervised the removal of.all subsurface remedial piping at the
project. The subsurface piping previously connected -an aboveground manifold located at southeast
corner of the site building to.the following remedial wells: VW-1 through VW-4, MW-1, MW-1, SW-1,
SW-2, and RW-1 (Figure 2). All pipes formerly consisted of Schedule 40 PVC material and were located
within a common trench, thus easing_removal.
A back hoe was used to uncover the lines for removal. During removal at each wellhead, the line was
cut close to the well, and the stub to the well was permanently capped.
520 Third Street,Suite 104 w Oakland,California 94607 + Telephone 510-893-5160 + Fax 510-893-5947
