Ruiz Grocery Store, 4491 West Durham Ferry Rd., Tracy, CA
Dear Mr. Hartzell,
This letter transmits .a copy of Clearwater's Groundwater Monitoring Report - Second Quarter 2001 for
the referenced site. As you may recall, we discussed sampling the project again in April with the hopes
of closing the project and abandoning the wells prior to road and shoulder work (now scheduled to
begin on April 16) that might result in covering and/or damaging several wells.
I received the most recent sampling results from the lab on Monday, April 9 and distributed these
results via facsimile to the regulating agencies for rapid review. Your voice mail indicated you would
be out from April 9 to the 13, so I contacted Ms. Cori Condon to request her review of the data given the
compressed time line. Ms. Condon indicated that the data looked very favorable for closure, and
verbally approved the destruction of the wells. Therefore, I will work with San Joaquin County to
permit and accomplish well destruction by Friday, April 13.
Even though the regulating agencies may likely issue .a letter requiring "no further action" in terms of
investigation and clean-up of the former gasoline release at the site, Ms. Condon indicated that Ms.
Ruiz may be required to test the Domestic Well for MTBE on a quarter-year basis, as part of her permit
from San Joaquin County to operate the well. Ms. Condon indicated that she would be in direct contact
with Ms. Margaret Logorio at San Joaquin County regarding this issue.
If you have any questions regarding this project, please feel free to call me at (510) 893-5160.
Sincerely,
Clearwater Group
Brian Gwinn, R.G.
Chief Geologist
enclosures
CC., Ms. Lori Duncan, SJCPHS/EHD, P.O.
