CLEARWATER
' G R O U P, I N C.
£nvirenn—ntal Serv,c,-s
results of this thorough testing indicated the radius of influence for each well ranged from 17 to 35
feet (please refer to Clearwater's Problem Assessment Report, Feasibility Study, and Remedial
Action Plan dated February 21, 1996). While Clearwater concurs that the footprint of vacuum
control in the vadose should be verified with the system operating, it should be noted that a
substantial amount of radius of influence data already exist for.specific wells at the site.
(4) "During the meeting Henry Hurkmans stated that it was the intention Clearwater Group, Inc.
to.have this system in operation for three months. PHS/EHD questions this timetable. In their
June 9, 1998 letter to Mrs.Ruiz, the State Water Resources Controi`Eoard,Technical R-eview TJnit
pre-approved the cost for a six-moth SVE/AS unit rental. Please have your consultant clarify this
I
discrepancy to the PHS/EHD."
E It is unfortunate that miscommunication must'have occurred-here. Clearwater intends to perform
ongoing review of system operational data to determine remedial efficacy. In general, I envision
the SVE/AS system operating until contaminant recovery becomes negligible, a point-to be
I
f. determined jointly'between the.SJCPHS/EHD, Mrs. Stella Ruiz, and Clearwater. If remediation is
needed beyond the initial six month period (end of March.1999), cost pre-approval,will be sought
j from the UST Cleanup Fund for additional operation.
{4} "Please have your consultant inform the PHS/EHD when installation of the required
instrumentation and sampling ports will be completed, and have them send PHS/EHD a detailed
copy of their proposed operation and maintenance schedule along with a detailed as-built diagram
of the SVE system."
f It is anticipate that these modifications will be completed by the end of January 1999. The
operations and maintenance schedule will be discussed in the next groundwater monitor report,
which will also provide an as-built remediation system diagram.
I look forward to working with you to compete remediation and close this project in the future. If
you have any questions, please feel free to calf me.
I
Ms. Lori Duncan, SJCPHSIEHD 3 December 23, 1998
