we'
Y
PROPOSED GROUND WATER RECOVERY
The proposed recovery well will be drilled 60 to 70+ feet
deep to allow a draw down of 10 to 15'+. This will produce a
radius of influence of about 25' or more. _See Plate No. 5.
The location selected for the recovery well is near the
east end of the contaminated zone between B-7 and B-9. This
conforms with prior drilling data. During excavation of the tank
hole, no differences in soils were noted that might cause a large
lateral migration of product in any direction except downward.
One submersible pump of . l-/2-horsepower will be .installed in
the well ' to pump at. a rate of. 2 to 20 g.p,m: and will be cycled
and/or valved to control the flow. The expected flow is 5 to 10
gpm. It will also be equipped with high/low on/off controls. In
addition, a gasoline sensor float, which is normally closed, will
- be set just below the pump off sensor to detect gasoline on the
surface of the well. This sensor will shut down the system if a
gasoline layer of a few inches builds up in the well.
Gasoline build-up in the well is expected to be minimal. It
will be ramoved by a second pump which is installed as needed.
A. 1000-gallon tank 'will .be use&, to separate gas/water prior
to being -fed to the stripper. Water for the stripper will be
supplied by a second 1/4-h.p. pump at a rate of 1 to 20 g.p.m.
Since the treatment process may require more than one pass of the
water through the stripper.
A facility will be provided for injection of chemicals to
control algae growth.
STRIPPING TOWER
The proposed stripping tower includes a 18" diameter pipe
. and contains 16 feet of .Yaeger Tri-Pak 2" spheres. 270 cubic
feet of air will be supplied by a Dayton High Pressure Blower
capable of delivering 270 CFM at 1" of water. The spray nozzle
is a Bete Fog Nozzle, 1200 full cone, No. TF 10 FC delivering 2
GPM at 10 psi. and a TF ;16 FC delivering 5.3 GPM at 10 PSI. See
Tower calculations attached and Plate No. 6.
4`
The 1,000-gallon tank will be equipped with (l) a relay to
shut the well pump off when 958 level is reached; (2) a sensor to
detect gasoline on the surface which will shut the system down if
' 1" to 2" of gasoline collects; and (3) on/off sensors for the
stripping tower pump set at 90% full: ON, 508 full: OFF.
To start the operation, the water will be pumped directly to
the stripping tower and the finished water stored in the 1,000-
gallon tank to check water quality. Both the inflow and discharge
will be tested daily the first few days to establish the l
efficiency of the stripper. After the operation is established,
testing would be reduced to weekly, then monthly as permitted by
---------- the -
-7-
