NOR —
RM. TME
-
" x,;-w- '` ",
E
I. H. KLE1NE=ELDER &ASSOCIATES
' linearly over depth while the volume of gasoline decreases rapidly between
^44. 16 and 21 feet and gradually between 21 and 31
_ feet.
The vertical distribution of hydrocarbons appears to be influenced by soil
type and lithology. The largest volume of hydrocarbons is present in the
13.5-18.5 foot range which is a silty sand, sandy silt type of soil.
Below this is a silt layer. The reduction in volume and concentration of
hydrocarbon indicates vertical migration of the hydrocarbon was retarded
f
by the silt.
ttt
t Possibly up to two additional
point sources for the fuel leak are
indicated by the data and pipeline leaks are suspected. The additional
source area appears to lie within the area bordered by borings B-6, B-8
and B—?.
Tlie water quality data show
, ground water has beeh.: affected by.leakage froom'
-m--thei tanks. n The highest concentration of hydrocarbons and its aromatic
constituents was found in MW-1. This well is.located northeast a
adjacent to a suspected source of leakage. Higher contamination likes;•
exists below the northern and northeast areas of the "Shed and Service
Pit" with a resulting plume of contaminated ground water extending cut
below the- shed and migrating toward the southeast. Additional wells
!. upgradient and downgradient of the area are need6d to locate the leading
edge and extent of ground water contamination.
5.4 PRELIMINARY SCREENING of FEASIBLE REMEDIAL ALTERNATIVES
The data suggest the most feasible alternatives involve removal of the
tv
soil. The removal extent and subsequent disposition of the soil would
Iti require further analysis. Preliminarily, alternatives could include.

_ f
fir
38-87-43 15
6.
