°
A.Tomhert&Son Inc.Mable Equipment Shop 103 N.'E'St.Stockton,CA.
Remedial Action Plan March. 1994
1.0 Introduction
Purpose
The purpose of the soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot test was to collect soil samples for
chemical analysis, and to characterize vacuum-induced air flow in the subsurface. Three
parameters of airflow are monitored in addition to air sample analysis. These parameters
are airflow in cubic feet per minute, or CFM, at the blower, the vacuum required to
generate the flow and the radius of influence of the vacuum test as measured in outlying
well points. These parameters are used to evaluate the feasibility of SVE for the
remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater beneath the site. This
data was collected during and subsequent to the construction of monitoring well MW--14
in accordance with SCR's Pilot Soil Vapor Extraction Test Work Plan dated February 8,
1994. The site and site vicinity are illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
° 1_2 Scope
The scope of work was completed in accordance with SCR's standard procedures,
included as Appendix A, and included the following:
• Preparation of a work plan, design and location of SVE/monitoring well MW-14, and
securing the required well construction permit.
• Advancing a 10--inch diameter soil boring on March 10, 1994, and collecting seven
soil samples from the boring at five--foot intervals from 40 to 70 feet below ground
surface (bgs).
a
• Constructing and developing 4-inch diameter groundwater monitoring well MW-14
suitable for soil vapor extraction of petroleum hydrocarbons from product-bearing
zones encountered by the soil boring.
• Chemical analysis of seven soil samples collected from the soil boring for total
° petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene
and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA methods 8015m18020.
• Completion of an SVE pilot test on the newly constructed MW-14 and measuring
the radius of influence from an induced vacuum on surrounding wells, measurement
° and calculation of air flow generated by the test, and collection of an air sample for
chemical analysis of TPH gasoline and BTEX.
• Evaluation of the pilot test data and development of site-specific SVE remediation
system requirements.
°
2
1
