1
Attachment A
SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Confirmation Soil Samples
' Confirmation soil samples collected from the bottom and sidewalls of the
excavation were collected from the backhoe bucket. Soil was removed from
the surface of the bucket to access relatively undisturbed native material
and to remove slough from the top of the soil. A 2-inch-diameter stainless
steel ring was driven into the soil. The ring was then sealed at both ends
with Teflon tape and plastic and caps, labeled, placed in a ziploc bag, and
placed on ice pending chemical analysis.
Stockpiled Soil Samples
As the soil was being replaced into the excavation, soil samples were
' collected at random locations from the stockpile. Soil was removed from the
surface of the pile, or from the recently backhoe-scraped edge, to access
material which has been the least exposed to open air. A 2-inch-diameter
' stainless steel ring was then driven into the soil. The sample was sealed at
both ends with Teflon tape and plastic and caps, labeled, placed in a ziploc
bag, and stored on ice pending chemical analysis.
r i
OlOf9010f900020.2aw Rev. 0 October 281992 9 . ,
r Pl
