'I <br /> 3 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> 1 EMCOIV Associates proposes that the following tasks be conducted to <br /> excavate soil in the vicinity of the former pump island north of the lube pit, <br /> ' to characterize the extent of soil impact in the vicinity of the former location <br /> of tank E, and to characterize the southern extent of ground-water impact. <br />' The scope of work presented below was developed based on the previ- <br /> ously generated data, as summarized in Section 2. The field activities pre- <br /> sented below will be conducted consistent with the health and safety plan <br />' presented in Appendix A. <br /> 3.1 Excavate impacted Soil <br /> I' <br /> � The following activities will be conducted to assess the vertical and lateral <br /> f <br /> extent of soil impact and excavate impacted soil: `{ <br /> conduct field screening of the excavated soil using a <br /> photoionization detector to assess when remaining soil <br /> likely does not contain concentrations of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons <br />' C excavate soil to the limits indicated by the field screening <br /> results or the limits of the equipment (approximately <br /> 25 feet) I <br /> i <br /> collect at least one verification soil sample from each <br /> excavation sidewall and the base of the excavation and <br />' analyze (by a state-certified laboratory) the verification soil <br /> samples for TPHG and BTEX consistent with procedures <br /> documented in the August 10, 1990, Tri-Regional Board <br /> Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluations and <br /> Investigations of Underground Tank Sites (Tri-Regional <br /> Guidelines) <br /> stockpile excavated soil on plastic sheeting and cover with <br /> plastic sheeting <br /> pjf\f92\f920201 a 5 Rev. 0 June 1 1992 <br />
