Teichert & Son, Inc ,
Facility, Located at 103 North E Street, Stockton, California
Dear Mr Takemori
At the request of A Teichert & Son, Inc (Teichert), EMCON has prepared this quarterly
status and site closure report This report summarizes the results of soil and groundwater `
investigations and work conducted during the second quarter 1996, which included
groundwater monitoring at the subject site (see Figure 1) Groundwater monitoi-in$-
consisted of measuring depths to groundwater, collecting groundwater samples froM the
wells for subjective and laboratory analyses, and evaluating the groundwater gradient and
direction of groundwater flow beneath the site In addition, this report presents the
cumulative soil and groundwater data and rationale for requesting site closure
BACKGROZAD
The site is located at the intersection of North E Street and Weber Street and is within an r '
industrial zone In October 1986, two 5,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks V
(USTs) and one 1,000-gallon waste-oil UST were removed from the Teichert equipment site
("Problem Assessment Report and Final Remediation Plan," EMCON, December 16, 1992)
These tanks were not replaced In September 1987, overeat yauon of the-impactO soil
near the former tank complex was completed Based on safety and sidewall stability
considerations, the overexcavation was ternunated at a depth of approximately 34 feet
below ground surface (bgs) Residual concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons,>cM=ed
in the soil at the north-central side of the excavation where the pump island was located,
at the bottom (38 feet bgs) center of the tank excavation, and near the northwest corner of
the excavation
In August 1988, a 10,000-gallon regular gasoline storage tank was removed ("PMblem
Assessment Report and Final Remediation Plan," EMCON, December 16, 1992) Two soil
samples were collected from the tank excavation for laboratory analysis One of the samples
contained detectable concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX),
however, BTEX was not detected in the other sample Total petroleum hydrocarbons as
SA(--,\N-,PJMFgMF900020 SAS-95\fw l
