Mr George Takemon Project OF90-002 04
March 8, 1996
Page 5
northeast EMCON prepared two hydrograph maps (see Figures 5 and 6) for wells
MW-13 and MW-14 Based on the hydrograph maps, it appears that dissolved
hydrocarbons have decreased with time Therefore, it is EMCON's opinion that the
combination of natural biodegradation and air sparging has decreased dissolved
hydrocarbon concentrations in the groundwater
The remediation system was operational for an average of 78 percent and removed
approximately 570 pounds of TPHG during the fourth quarter The cumulative mass of
TPHG removed to date is approximately 3,008 pounds The concentrations of TPHG and
benzene are decreasing, indicating that SVE has been effective in removing hydrocarbons
from the soil
In addition, EMCON recommends the addition of nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen, and
potassium) into impacted wells to facilitate nucrobial degradation of petroleum
hydrocarbons
WORK IN PROGRESS
Monthly operation and maintenance of the remediation system will be temporarily
discontinued With declining influent concentrations and increased microbial activity,
EMCON will evaluate the effectiveness of intrinsic bioremediation Teichert will continue
to perform quarterly groundwater monitoring The next sampling event is tentatively
scheduled for the last week of February 1996
It is EMCON's understanding that Teichert will submit a workplan to abandon monitoring
wells MW-1, MW-3, MW-4, and MW-5 Once the workplan is approved, Teichert will
contract a licensed well driller to abandon the wells
DOCUMENT DISTRIBUTION
We recommend copies of this status report to be forwarded to the following
Linda Turkatte
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P O Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
SAC\N 1PJ010F9010F900020 4FS-951dms 1
