Weber Street, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Data to support closure of the A. Teichert and Sons facility,
103 North E Street, Stockton, California
Mr. Knoll:
At the request of Mr. George Takemori of A. Teichert and Sons (Teichert), Stratus
Environmental, Inc. (Stratus) prepared this response to your fax of September 18, 2001
(Appendix A). Your fax requested additional information following review of Stratus'
Final Closure Report (dated July 20, 2001) by the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services-Environmental Health Division (PHS-EMD) and the California Regional Water
Quality Control Board-Central Valley Region (CRWQCB).
Your fax requested the following additional data:
• EPA Method 8260B analytical results for confirmation boring B-17,
o Revised Site Map showing closed UST locations,
o Lead analysis on soil for UST samples at the time of removal, and
o An additional round of sampling from all monitoring wells that includes lead,
1,2-DCA, EDB, TPHG, BETX, and five oxygenates (EPA 8260B Method).
Confirmation boring B-17 was drilled to 100 feet below ground surface (bgs) on
September 10, 1999. Soil samples collected at 40, 49, 85, and 95 feet bgs were submitted
for chemical analysis that included TPHG by EPA Method 8015B/DHS LUFT, and for
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BETX), methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl
ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA Method 8260B. Results of
these analyses were included in Stratus' report Results of Confirmation Boring and Site
Closure Report (dated November 1, 1999). Table 1 in this report summarized the TPHG,
BTEX, and MTBE results. TPHG was detected in all four of these samples at
concentrations ranging from 7.4 milligrams/kilogram (mg/Kg) at 40 feet bgs to 1.0
mg/Kg at 95 feet bgs. Ethylbenzene was detected in the samples collected from 85 feet
bgs (13 micrograms/kilogram, [pg[Kg]) and 95 feet bgs (9.4 µtg/Kg). Total xylenes were
detected in the samples collected from 85 feet bgs (160 µg/Kg) and 95 feet bgs
(131 µg/Kg). Benzene, toluene, MTBE, TAME, ETBE, D1PE, or TBA were not detected
