Specific issues are addressed below.
1. Nearby surface water bodies: The nearest surface water body to the site is Thomas Paine
Slough, located approximately 1.75 miles north-northeast of the site, although "Sugar Cut" is
located approximately 1.5 miles north of the site. An additional site vicinity map showing
nearby features is included in Attachment 1.
2. Disposition of drilling/sampling waste from most recent investigation: Three drums of soil
were transported to Forward Landfill for disposal. In addition, 55 gallons of purged
groundwater was transported by American Valley Waste Oil, Inc. to Ramos Environmental
Services in West Sacramento for disposal. Copies of the non-hazardous waste manifests are
included in Attachment 2.
3. Ethanol, Methanol, EDB, and 1,2-DCA: Monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were
analyzed for ethanol and methanol on February 5, 2002 and all results were below laboratory
detection limits. All site wells were sampled for EDB and 1,2-DCA on multiple occasions,
most recently in December 2008 and all results were below laboratory detection limits.
Revised data tables that incorporate all soil and groundwater data collected to date are
included in Attachment 3.
4. Initial groundwater concentrations versus current groundwater concentrations: Worst-
case groundwater quality conditions can be represebted by the grab groundwater sample
collected from the UST excavation pit in April 1991 (RETP I-B-9.5'), which contained TPHg
and benzene at concentrations of 120,000 µg/L and 14,000 gg/L, respectively. The most
recent groundwater samples collected from site wells (December 2008) were less than the
laboratory detection limits for wells MW-1, MW-3, MW-4, and MW-5, while well MW-2
contained TPHg and benzene at concentrations of 310 pglL and 3.7 pg/L, respectively. Table
2 in Attachment 3 contains a comprehensive summary of groundwater analytical results.
07607 closurcaddcndum
