i <br /> GROUND ZERO ANALYSIS, INC. <br /> 2291 W.March Lane, Suite 127D <br /> Stockton, California 95207 <br /> Telephone: (209) 952-3481 o <br /> Facsande: (209) 952-9892 <br /> JUL 0 7 1997 <br /> July 7, 1997 <br /> ENVIRONMENTALni�'�EF2YlCEHEALTH <br /> John Pestana QTIP Trust <br /> P O Box 672 <br /> Manteca, CA 95336-9998 <br /> Attn Mr John Tague <br /> Subject Workplan for Investigation of Subsurface Sod Contamination <br /> Former Reeve's Exxon, 2360 East Street,Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Tague <br /> Ground Zero Analysis, Inc (Ground Zero) has prepared this workplan on behalf of the John Pestana <br /> QTIP Trust to present proposed field activities to further investigate subsurface soil contamination at <br /> 2360 East Street, Tracy, California(Figure 1) <br /> The purpose of the investigation is to evaluate current subsurface sod conditions in the areas of <br /> documented sod contamination and to determine the nature of heavy petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> previously identified in subsurface soils at the northern boundary of the site(along Grant Line Road) <br /> PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Ground Zero will advance up to 7 soil bonngs in areas of previously documented soul contamination to <br /> determine current concentrations of residual soil contamination as a result of former site operations and <br /> 4 to 6 additional borings will be dnlled in the northern portion of the site to determine the nature of <br /> heavy petroleum hydrocarbons noted in subsurface sods along Grant Line Road Proposed soil boring <br /> locations are shown on Figure 2 <br /> Soil borings will be hand-augered to a depth of approximately 6 feet below ground surface (bgs) for <br /> the purpose of collecting soil samples in the unsaturated zone. The equipment will be cleaned before <br /> angering the borings to minimize the possibility of cross-contamination Soil encountered will be <br /> logged for soil type and subjective evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons such as sod discoloration or <br /> obvious odor, whuch will be noted boring logs A photoioniza#ion detector (PID) will also be used to <br /> evaluate soil samples for petroleum hydrocarbons, if appropriate Sod samples will be collected by <br /> advancing the boring to a point immediately above the sampling depth, and then driving a percussion <br /> sampler containing a brass sleeve into the relatively undisturbed soil The sampler and brass sleeves <br /> groun&elpesKana.0364pinbab doc / <br />
