O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Proposed 1995 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Schedule
King Island Resort, 11530 West Eight Mile Road , Stockton, California
Site Code: 1557
Mr. Infurna:
This letter is submitted by Smith Environmental Technonlogies/Canonie Environmental
Services Corp. on behalf of Westrec Marinas/King Island Resort (Westrec) to present the
proposed groundwater monitoring and sampling schedule for 1995 calendar year at the subject
site (Plate 1) .
The California Regional Water Quality Control Board has indicated (CRWQCB, January 17,
1995) that typically, if a monitoring well has had four consecutive quarters of nondetection and
it is still needed to determine whether a plume is migrating or not, the monitoring frequency
can be reduced to semi-annually to convey the effects of seasonal changes . However, if the
monitoring well is not needed to monitor plume migration it can be completely removed from
the monitoring program . If all monitoring wells show nondetect for four consecutive quarters,
then closure of ail investigation and/or remediation activities at the f cility will be considered.
Accordingly, the following groundwater sampling schedule is proposed for the 1995 calendar
year at the subject site:
Wells MWl , MW2, and MW3 will be removed from the sampling schedule, based upon
their position upgradient or crossgradient from the impacted well (MW4) and their history
of nondetect results, including at least seven consecutive quarters of nondetect results.
Wells MW4 and MW5 will continue to be sampled on a semi-annual basis, as approved in
PHS/EHD correspondence dated August 4, 1993 , until four consecutive sampling events
show nondetect results .
150075\LETTERS\L-030395 .doc 1
