One of
the three USTs was removed under EHD permit in July 1991 and the site was
placed into the Local Oversight Program in October 1991 when the report of the
removal indicated petroleum hydrocarbons had impacted the soil beneath the
tanks. EHD directed the marina to install monitoring wells and define the extent
of the groundwater plume . EHD has provided oversight of the groundwater
contamination data from the six (6) monitoring wells installed at this site since
April 1991 .
j During March 1999 , the last of the two USTs were removed under EHD permit
and the report of the removal was finally received at EHD in March 2002 . The
report indicates that the old piping was removed , the soil sampled , and the new
piping lines were installed in June 1999 . Soil sample data included in this report
indicated an additional impact to the soil has occurred .
No new USTs were installed but in April 1999 the marina installed two
compartmentalized , aboveground , steel , gasoline and diesel storage tanks
(AST) over the former UST pit area . Previous soil and groundwater
investigations in the levee area have indicated extensive petroleum impact to the
soil (free product dark oily liquid ) in the levee and shallow groundwater in this
area .
MW-7 was installed in the levee close to the ASTs and the area of this extensive
soil impact during April 2001 . Groundwater samples from MW-7 have had MtBE
at 97 , 300 ug/I on April 6 , 2001 and 150 ,000 ug/I on July 6 , 2001 , but have not
had significant levels of TPHg , TPHd , or BTEX.
Piping for both the former USTs and the current ASTs appears to be under a
building , in and thru the levee , and surfaces to extend westward to the
dispensers on the dock for watercraft servicing only.
