There is one% hp submersible pump rated at 30 gpm located on the top of the tank. The pump is
equipped with an integral check valve and anti-siphon device. Fuel is pumped through a metering unit
located on the side of the tank, and dispensed through a hose and nozzle. The hose is equipped with a
swivel and breakaway. A siphon breaker has been installed in the dispenser line on top of the tank to
prevent siphoning of fuel if the dispenser line fails. There is a mushroom type emergency shut off switch
and fire extinguisher located approximately 15'east of the tank.
2.4 Compatibility with stored product
The material stored in the tank is diesel fuel which is fully compatible with Convault tanks constructed
according to UL 142 specifications.
2.5 Historical Spills
No past spills have been reported by the owner or operator of this facility. No evidence of major
petroleum releases could be found during the site inspections.
3.0 Spill Prevention Procedures
Tank inspections, site security, inventory control and personnel training are intended to prevent spills
and maintain the facility in a safe operating condition.
3.1 Tank Inspection
Monthly and annual inspections should be performed to check for leaks in the fuel systems and assess
the general condition of the fuel systems. By keeping the fuel systems in good condition the potential of
spills is reduced. Records of inspections and any associated maintenance shall be kept at the facility for
five years. Inspection forms are included in Appendix C. Items identified during an inspection will be
repaired, replaced or changed as soon as possible. If a leak occurs immediate action will be taken to
stop the leak and complete repairs.
Tank will be inspected for integrity according to industry standards per the manufacturer as included in
Appendix 1.
3.2 Tank Protection Safety Features
The tank is protected from accidental vehicle damage by the exterior tank and the placement of
concrete bollards.
3.3 Overfill Protection
The fuel tank fill lines are equipped with a mechanical overfill protection valve. This valve is designed to
positively shutoff fuel being pumped into the tank at approximately 90%of the tank's maximum
capacity. The overfill valve serves to prevent the tank from overfilling and spilling liquid during filling of
the tank.
3.4 Liquid Level Monitoring/Inventory Control
8
