The
reports were submitted by Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) on behalf of the
H & H Marina (H & H) located at 15135 Eight Mile Road in Stockton (Site).
Groundwater at the Site is polluted by two fuel spills. The first occurred sometime in the
1990s. A second gasoline discharge of unknown quantity occurred around September
2007 from an aboveground storage tank (AGT) in the vicinity of MW-2, the monitoring
well closest to the AGT, and caused a distinct increase in the petroleum hydrocarbon
concentrations in MW-2. Constituents of concern (CDCs) at the site include total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary
butyl alcohol (TBA), and tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME).
To clean up the pre-September 2007 spill, H & H conducts groundwater remediation by
extracting groundwater from a 6-inch diameter extraction well (EW-1) and routing it
through a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system. Operation of this interim
remedial measure (IRM) commenced in June 2005 under general National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. CAG915001, Order No. 5-00-
11938. However, emails sent to Central Valley Water Board from AGE on 1 June,
12 June and 30 June indicate that the system incurred significant down-time during the
month of June 2009.
To address the soil and groundwater pollution caused by the September 2007 spill,
H & H excavated and disposed of the contaminated soil, partially backfilled and shored
the excavation, and installed a sump pump. H & H commenced groundwater extraction
from the sump and routed the groundwater to the existing IRM treatment system. The
IRM remains in operation. However, due to dewatering of the sump, direct extraction
from the sump was not possible between October 2007 and December 2008. Pumping
from the sump was performed during the first quarter of 2009.
California Environmental Protection Agency
ped Recycled Paper
