12 September 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0865
method selected and for all necessary construction work, including electrical source installation. A
minimum of 48 hours notice will be given to the EHD prior to performing any field work.
4.2. REMEDIATION SYSTEM PIPING NETWORK
A network of two-inch diameter,schedule 80 polyvinylchloride(PVC)piping will be installed from
the remediation wells in a series of trenches, approximately 12-inch wide and 18-inches deep. This
piping will house the air supply and fluid outlet lines running to and from the pump. All PVC piping
will be routed underground from the remediation well head to the pump-and-treat holding tank,
located inside the remediation system fenced enclosure.Following piping placement, the trench will
be backfilled with imported road-base sand, compacted and covered with resurfaced with sod or
concrete depending on the surface terrain. A cut view drawing of the process piping layout is
included in Figure 5.
4.3. GROUND WATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM
An air-driven down well pump will be installed in well EW-1 (Figure 7).Air supply and fluid return
lines will be routed from the custom cap at the top of the well to the pump, air return hose will also
be connected to the pump and allowed to vent at the well head(Appendix B).To minimize sediment
intake through the pump, the bottom of the pump/motor assembly will be suspended approximately
one foot from the bottom of the well. Ground water will be continuously pumped from the bottom
of the 6inch diameter well EW-1 at low-flow rates between 0 and 3 GPM and routed through
underground PVC piping to a 750-gallon holding tank.
The air-driven groundwater extraction pumps will be run by an air compressor located in the
remediation system enclosure(Figure 6).The air is routed to the pumps through a series of trenches
as mentioned above.AGE anticipates total ground water extraction flow between two and five GPM.
4.4. GROUND WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
From well EW-1, extracted ground water will be routed to a 750-gallon holding tank, from which
it will pass through a process pump and a 1-micron sediment bag filter to the three-stage treatment
system. The holding tank is equipped with various level control switches which serve to control the
rate at which extracted water is introduced into the treatment vessels, to provide safety shutoff
capabilities and to allow coarser sediment to settle out prior to treatment.
Advanced GwEnvironmentel,Inc.
