1 <br /> Herman At Helen s lvianna Fourth Quarter 20DO Grountiwa[tr Motutanng <br />' January 12 2001 <br /> Pagc 3- <br /> investigation results and installation of additional monitor wells to monitor the leading edge of the Vl BF, plume <br /> Comprehensive site background information is included in Appendix B <br /> 3 FOURTH QUARTER, 2000, GROUNDWATER ,°MONITORING <br />' 3.1 FIELD METHODOLOGY <br /> On December 13, 2000 a Condor representative was on site to conduct quarterly groundwater monitoring <br /> activities The monitoring activities included measurement of water levels in the site monitor wells and at surface <br />' water measurement stations and the collection of groundwater tramples from the monitor wells All field <br /> equipment was decontaminated in the ficld with a solution of laboratory-grade, non-phosphate detergent and de- <br /> ioni7ed water and rinsed with de-ionized water prior to use in each well All field instruments were calibrated to <br />' manufacturer recommended standards The water level in each well was measured to the nearest 0 01 foot with a <br /> battery-operated, flat-tape, water-level meter A new, disposable, polyethylene bailer was lowered into each well <br /> to collect a field-inspection sample I'he bailer sample was inspected for floating product, sheen, discoloration <br />' and/or odor 1~bating product or sheens were not observed in the groundwater removed from any of the monitor <br /> wells during the groundwater sampling Moderate petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in the groundwater <br /> recovered from MW-4 A slight odor (possibly septic) was noted in the groundwater recovered from MW-1 No <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in the groundwater recovered from MW-2 and MW-3 <br /> Each well was purged with a new, disposable, polyethylene bailer until three well-casing volumes of water were <br />' removed and the electrical conductivity, pH, and temperature of the water stabilized The purge water was <br /> discharged to 55-gallon drums and left on site to await disposal Groundwater Monitoring Field Forms are <br /> included in Appendix C <br /> A groundwater sample was collected from each well by filling a new, disposable, polyethylene bailer with <br /> groundwater and transferring the groundwater to three 40-milliliter glass vials fitted with Teflon®-lined caps <br />' using a bailer bottom-emptying device The vials were checked to assure that no air bubbles were present Each <br /> sample container was labeled and placed in a cooler chilled with ice and delivered under chain-of-custody <br /> procedures to GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc , in Modesto, California Results of the laboratory analyses are <br /> described in Section 3 3 <br /> 3 2 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY <br /> i The analytical methods and detection limits for the laboratory analyses of the water samples collected during the <br /> Decembei 13, 2000 monitoring event are summari7ed in Table 1, on the next page <br /> i <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I � <br /> �� CONDOR <br />
