Herman&Helen i Manna- Fourth Quarter 1999 Groundwater Monitoring
February I 20M
Page-7-
4. FOURTH QUARTER, 1999, SURFACE WATER MONITORING
4.1 FIELD METHODOLOGY
On December 22, 1999, a Condor representative was on site to conduct quarterly surface water mouitonng
I activities The monitoring activities included the collection of surface water samples from the drainage ditch and
island drainage channel located east and south of the site, respectively (Figure 5, Appendix A) Four surface
water samples were collected with a Teflon' dipping cup and transferred to two 40-milliliter glass vials fitted
' with Teflon-lined caps Surface water samples DDS (drainage ditch south) and DDN (drainage ditch north)
were collected approximately five feet and 100 feet north of Eight Mile Road, respectively Surface water
samples 1DCW (island drainage channel west) and 1DCE (island drainage channel east) were collected from the
western terminus of the island drainage channel and approximately 100 feet east of the confluence of the
drainage ditch and the island drainage channel, respectively Each sample container was labeled and placed in a
cooler chilled with ice and delivered under cham-of-custody procedures to GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc , in
' Modesto, California, within 24 hours of sample collection Results of the laboratory analyses are discussed in
Section 4 3
4.2 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY
The laboratory analytical methods for the surface water samples collected on December 22, 1999, are
summarized in Table 4
TABLE 4
Laboratory Analytical Methods
Analytes
Gasoline
BTEX TPH-G
' Oxygenates/Additives
Analytical Methods 602 5030/LUFT 8260
Detection L=wts 0 3 tg/L(BTE) 0 05 mg/L 1 0 µg/L
0 6 ug/L(X) I 10 0 µg/L(tert Butanol)
IBTEX=benzene,toluene, ethyl benzene,and total xylenes
TPH-G=total petroleum hydrocarbons,quantified as gasoline
' Gasoline Oxygenates/Additives-methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBh),ethanol,tertiary-butanol,
di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl ternary-butyl ether(ETRE)and tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME)
I4.3 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL RESULTS
BTEX and TPH-G were not detected at or above the laboratory reported detection limits in any of the surface
water samples MTBE was detected in surface water samples DDN and DDS at concentrations of 2 7 and 15
I µg/1, respectively MTBE was not detected at or above the laboratory reported detection limits in surface water
samples IDCE or IDCW None of the gasoline oxygenates other than MTBE were detected at or above the
laboratory reported detection limits in any of the surface water samples A summary of the current and historical
' laboratory analytical results of the surface water samples is presented in Table 5 on the next page The current
laboratory analytical results of the surface water samples are shown in Figure 5,Appendix A
' tV CONDOR
