Herman&Helen%Manna - Fir%t Quarter 1999 [groundwater Mnmtoring
April 15 1999
Page-7
4 FIRST QUARTER, 1999, SURFACE WATER MONITORING
' 41 FIELD METHODOLOGY
On March 26, 1999 a Condor representative was on Site to conduct quarterly surface water monitoring activities
rhe monitoring activities included the collection of surface water samples from the drainage ditch and island
' drainage channel located east and south of the site, respectively Four surface water samples were collected with
a Teflon dipping cup and transferred to two 40-milliliter glass vials fitted with Teflon-lined caps Surface water
samples DDS (drainage ditch south) and DDN (drainage ditch north) were collected approximately five feet and
' 100 feet north of Fight Mile Road, respectively Surface water samples IDCW (island drainage channel west)
and IDCF' (island drainage channel east) were collected from the western terminus of the island drainage channel
and approximately 100 feet east of the confluence of the drainage ditch and the island drainage channel,
' respectively (refer to Figure S) Each sample container was labeled and placed in a cooler chilled with ice and
delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to CreoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc , in Modesto, California, within
24 hours of sample collection Results of the laboratory analyses are discussed in Section 4 3
' 4.2 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY
The laboratory analytical methods for the surface water samples collected on March 26, 1999, are summarized in
' Table 4
TABLE 4
' Laboratory Analytical Methods
Analytes
BTEX TPH-G Gasoline
Oxygenates/Additives
Analytical Methods 602 5030/LU1:T 8260
- gg/l ( 1 0
' Detection Limits 0 0 6 µg/ (X) ) 0 05 mg/L 10 0 µg/i (ten Butanol)
BTEX--ben7t.ne toluene ethyl benzene and total xylenes
' TPH-G —total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline
Gasoline Oxygenates/Additives=methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),ethanol,tertiary-butanol
di-isopropyl ethc,r(DIPS) ethy I tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE)and tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME)
4 3 LABORATORY ANALYTICAL RESULTS
No BTEX constituents or TPH-G were detected at or above the laboratory reported detection limits in any of the
' surface water samples, with the exception of toluene (detected at 8 3 pg/l in sample DDS) Laboratory reported
detection limits were raised for BTEX and TPH-G for surface water sample DDS, however MTBE was detected
in surface water samples IDCW, DDN and DDS at concentrations of 2 2, 980, and 3,500 µg/l, respectively
' TAME was detected at a concentration of 9 8 and 28 pg/l in samples DDN and DDS, respectively A summary
of laboratory analytical results of the surface water samples is presented in Table 5, on the next page, and in
Figure 5, Appendix A
1
' CONDOR
