06 March 2002
AGE-NC Project No 01-0865
Two soil samples from bonngs B5 and B7 were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a
chilled container and transported to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL), a State of
California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory
33 SOIL ANALYSES
Selected samples were analyzed for the following
• TPH-g, in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• BTEX in accordance with EPA Method 8020, and
• Fuel additives including MTBE, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), methanol, ethanol,
ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) by EPA Method 8260B
• 3 4 SOIL LOGGING
Dunng drilling, soil sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an
organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580A,
10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) and were visually described on bonng logs in accordance with
the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) Boring logs are included as Appendix A
3 5 GROUND WATER SAMPLING
Grab groundwater samples were collected from everyprobe boring, with the exception of B5,using
a Geoprobe hydropunch sampling assembly The probe rods were advanced to the desired depths,
the hollow steel rods were then pulled up four feet exposing a PVC screen in the saturated zones
Ground water was allowed to enter the screen, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC
tubing bailer Sufficient sample was collected from the borings to fill three 40-m1 EPA-approved
volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample
preservative Ground water sample containers were labeled with probe boring designation, depth,
date, time, and sampler's initials The preserved samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form,
placed in a chilled container and transported to CTEL for analysis
