' 3.0 - PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> During drilling in soils containing organic vapors and liquid contaminants, all personnel shall <br /> undertake the following precautions: <br /> ' 3.1 Skin/Clothes Protection <br /> a. Steel-toed boots and hard hats will be worn during all activities. <br /> b. Disposable suits (ie., Tyvek, Saranex, or equivalent), steel-toed rubber boots or steel- <br /> toed boots covered with disposable boots, and suitable gloves will be worn when there <br /> ' is potential for contact with contaminated soils. <br /> c. Disposable plastic gloves will be worn for sampling (changed after each sample). <br /> ' d. Disposable clothing will be discarded to an appropriate storage container at the end of <br /> each day and disposed of properly at the completion of the job. <br /> 1 <br /> 3.2 Respiratory/Eye/Ear Protection <br /> a. During drilling activities, ambient air and soil vapor will be monitored with an OVA. <br /> ' b. Site perimeter will also be monitored and monitoring frequency will be increased by <br /> the site manager if conditions approach 10 ppm with the OVA. <br /> tc. Half face/fall face respirators will be worn as warranted (see Section 5). <br /> d. Safety glasses/goggles will be worn during all drilling activities. <br /> e. Appropriate hearing protection will be used during all drilling activities. <br /> ' 4.0 - PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> ' Safety hazards will be typical of those associated with construction activities involving heavy <br /> equipment (e.g., drill rig). Possible hazards include drilling, heat stress, and noise. <br /> ' 4.1 Drilling <br /> B&F will be responsible for performing the drilling and adhering to standard safety <br /> procedures. The exclusion zone for the drill rig work area will be a 20-foot radius <br /> around the rig. Only authorized personnel will be permitted within the exclusion zone. <br /> No smoking will be permitted within the exclusion zone. <br /> 1 <br />
